Nevada County Habitat for Humanity was informally organized in mid 1995 by various community, government and church members to address the growing and recognized need for affordable housing in Nevada County . The organization was awarded "affiliate" status from Habitat for Humanity International in September of 1996 and shortly thereafter qualified as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.

In the past seven years, Nevada County Habitat for Humanity has grown from a handful of concerned citizens to a grass roots organization with a 15 member governing Board of Directors, a roster of 60 Standing Committee Members and over 150 willing volunteers and financial supporters, supporting our mission of providing simple decent and affordable houses for deserving local families.

To date we have completed ten homes, two in Penn Valley Gardens , six in Slate Creek Village , a subdivision in Grass Valley and and completed 2 of 5 homes on N. Church Ct. near downtown Grass Valley . These homes are providing affordable shelter for 13 adults and 33 children of qualified low-income families.
